Pure Kanjivaram, woven in Kanchipuram.

The Kanjivaram silk saree is the heaviest, most ceremonial weave in the Indian wardrobe — and the most easily counterfeited. Ours are hand-woven by kaikolar families in Kanchipuram, on pit looms, in pure mulberry silk, with pure copper-zari coated in real gold. Nothing else.

Deep maroon pure Kanjivaram silk saree with gold zari korvai border and temple motif pallu

Three threads. One body, one border.

A pure Kanjivaram silk saree is woven from three threads twisted together, two silk and one zari — which gives the cloth its characteristic weight (around 700–900 grams for a six-yard piece) and its trademark sheen.

The body and the border are woven separately and then interlocked, a technique called korvai. This is why a real Kanjivaram has a contrast border that can be a different colour without any join showing. If the border feels printed-on, the saree is not Kanjivaram.

The zari is pure — copper wire wound with silver, then coated with 22-carat gold. We provide a zari purity certificate with each piece. The hallmark is small and gold; ask to see it.

Buying Guide

How to read a Kanjivaram before you buy.

01

Weight

Six yards should weigh 700–900 grams. Lighter is likely a powerloom Kanjivaram blend.

02

Korvai border

Run a finger along the body/border join. A real korvai feels seamless on one side, ridged on the other.

03

Zari burn test

(We will do this for you in-store.) Real zari leaves a fine reddish residue. Synthetic burns black.

04

Silk mark

Every piece carries the Silk Mark India hologram. We will not sell a Kanjivaram without one.

Frequently asked, honestly answered.

Why is a real Kanjivaram so expensive?

A Kanjivaram uses 600–900 grams of silk plus 100–250 grams of pure zari (which is mostly silver and gold). The weaver works on the loom for 90–180 days. Our pricing reflects the cost of the yarn, the zari, and the hours of fair-waged handloom work. Anything dramatically cheaper is using powerloom and synthetic zari.

Will the colour bleed?

First wash always carries some run-off — it is a sign of real silk and real dye. Dry-clean for the first three years; gentle hand-wash with soapnut after that. We send a care card with every saree.

Can I see it before buying?

Yes. Book a studio visit — there is no pressure to buy and we serve filter coffee. We also offer a 7-day home try-on within Bangalore on selected pieces by request.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — to 28 countries via DHL with full insurance. International orders include the GI tag certificate for Indian customs documentation.
